In 1982, siblings John and Eileen Gannon jumped at the chance to open Gannon’s Isle Ice Cream in the small ice cream stand that stood in the parking lot of their father’s grocery store. By 1996, they had developed a following and expanded into the building where the grocery store operated. In 2000, a second location was opened at 4800 McDonald Road. To maintain the family run operation, John and Eileen brought in their youngest brother Dan to oversee the second location. In 2013, the Gannon’s finally responded to years of requests and opened a third location in downtown on Jefferson Street in the old Dey’s Centennial building. To maintain a family business, they turned to their cousins Brendan and Larry Haley of BHaley Designs to develop the plans for the store and complete the build out. Their nephew Patrick was brought on to manage the location. Downtown is their newest and most local effort to date. Everything, down to the last light bulb was purchased in New York State. Each one of the three locations is whimsically decorated by local artist JP Crangle.
Today, they have developed a strong a mobile following after starting catering services. The Gannon’s love celebrating their customers milestones at birthday parties, baby showers, office celebrations, graduations, and weddings. Their product has also struck a chord with the business community. Many of the local restaurants have jumped at the chance to carry Gannon’s products.
They have received dozens of Syracuse New Times Best of awards, Best of CNY recognition from the Post Standard, and Family Times Besties Readers Pick awards for the best ice cream shop. Despite the numerous awards and recognition, the Gannon’s favorite reviews have always been the repeat customers who continue to come back for generations.

The Sweet 16 round will have eight match-ups over eight days. The Elite 8 will have four match-ups over four days and the Final 4 will have two match-ups over two days each. The final round will decide the Chililn’ Champion and will last for three days. Come into any location during the Midsummer Classic and tell your scooper that you would like to sample the flavor matchup of the day, and then cast your vote for your favorite flavors. You will be able to see each flavor’s progress on the bracket in the window of our 1525 Valley Drive location.
No bracket face off would be complete without a bracket challenge. Come by any location and fill out your own bracket. The top five brackets will win a “Chillin’ Champion” hoodie and have their name and bracket posted in the store. Midsummer Classic prizes will be handed out each day so follow Gannon’s on Facebook and Twitter to see when a giveaway is happening. The 2012 Chillin’ Champion was Peanut Butter Perfection.
